Freelance Translator (ENG/GER) Localisation

Hi, I'm Johanna and I love stories.

Almost exactly a year ago, I started working as a freelance translator in game localisation. I’ve been translating and proofreading story-driven games from English to German this past year, and I'm looking for long-term collaborations with people who are passionate about games and the stories they tell.

Before I decided to become a freelancer, I had been working in a project management agency for technology and innovation (editorial work, in-house apps, mostly bilingual tasks) and a startup (translation of the company's technical manuals and reference documents, QA department).

I have a BA in North American Studies and (British) English Studies, with a focus on technology & culture as well as linguistic history & development--which I had the chance to improve on while I was studying in Michigan during my year abroad.

I've been reading books and playing games of all kinds since I was a kid, started writing soon after, and translated texts into German or English for friends or just for myself.

And now, it's a huge passion. I love stories. But I revel in transferring them into another language in a manner that pays homage to the original, so that others can enjoy it without missing out on the creativity behind it. It's a thrill to find good ways to localise an idea.
